Upper Limit for Γ-ray Emission above 140gev from the Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy Draco

چکیده
The nearby dwarf spheroidal galaxy Draco with its high mass to light ratio is one of the most auspicious targets for indirect dark matter (DM) searches. Annihilation of hypothetical DM particles can result in high-energy γ-rays, e.g. from neutralino annihilation in the supersymmetric framework. With the MAGIC telescope a search for a possible DM signal originating from Draco was performed during 2007. The analysis of the data results in a flux upper limit (2σ) of 1.1 × 10 photons cm sec for photon energies above 140GeV, assuming a point like source. Furthermore, a comparison with predictions from supersymmetric models is given. While our results do not constrain the mSUGRA phase parameter space, a very high flux enhancement can be ruled out. Decaying dark matter: the case for a deep X-ray observation of Draco
Recent studies of M31, the Galactic Centre (GC), and galaxy clusters have made tentative detections of an X-ray line at ∼3.5 keV that could be produced by decaying dark matter. We use high-resolution simulations of the Aquarius project to predict the likely amplitude of the X-ray decay flux observed in the GC relative to that observed in M31, and also of the GC relative to other parts of the Mi...
متن کاملMassive Black Holes in Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy Halos?
It is now established that several of the Local Group dwarf Spheroidal galaxies (dSphs) have large mass-to-light ratios. We consider the possibility that the dark matter in the halos of dSphs is composed of massive black holes with masses in the range 10 M⊙ to 10 7 M⊙. We use direct N -body simulations to determine the long term evolution of a two-component dSph composed of a pressure-supported...
متن کاملImproved Searches for HI in Three Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxies
Previous searches for HI in our Galaxy’s dwarf spheroidal companions have not been complete enough to settle the question of whether or not these galaxies have HI, especially in their outer parts. We present VLA observations of three dwarf spheroidals: Fornax, Leo II, and Draco, all of which have known stellar velocities. The new data show no HI emission or absorption. Column density limits in ...
متن کاملLyrae Stars and Anomalous Cepheids in the Draco Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy
We present new results on RR Lyrae stars and anomalous Cepheids in the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy. We have increased the number of double-mode RR Lyrae stars and found three new anomalous Cepheids. With period-magnitude and period-amplitude diagrams, we discuss the Oosterhoff classification of Draco. Contradictory results were found in that Draco appears to contain both Oosterhoff I and II t...
متن کاملStructure of the Draco Dwarf Spheroidal Galaxy
This article studies the structure of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy with an emphasis on the question of whether the spatial distribution of its stars has been affected by the tidal interaction with the Milky Way, using Rand V-band CCD photometry for eleven fields. The article reports coordinates for the center, a position angle of the major axis, and the ellipticity. It also reports the res...
